44: Rand

My hands are shaking, and I’m gasping for breath.  It was horrible, the most horrible thing.

No, it wasn’t.  There is even worse.  This was something Ashtara wanted me to see, wanted me to understand how Davy was able to get the information necessary to create the Bhavashti.

I start to cry.  Poor Lorcan.  From the moment his branch grew, he was cursed.  He had so much to carry, and for such a long time, he had to do it by himself.

For what it’s worth, I’d pollinate him, too, if I could.

I flip back to the beginning of the entries Tara made when Ashtara first went to Nightside.  Some of this I’ve seen already.  Actually, the first new information is right after Lorcan’s first death.  That’s important.  It means that Ashtara isn’t trying to keep information from me.  He’s trying to help me make sense of it.

It affirms my earlier supposition.  The point isn’t to keep me in the dark.  The point is to hide my presence from that SongLuminant.  Functioning under that supposition, the sooner I can figure out what’s going on the better.

I begin to read.  It’s a good thing that I can read very, very quickly.
