52: Rand

Davy fell asleep?

We don’t sleep.  Except for Chase, that is.

Tara has gone to a meeting with some of the colonial leaders.  I can hear her tell them that yesterday’s incident was isolated.  They’re making plans to begin moving into the homesteads in three days.

All right, let me sort out what I’ve learned.  The one who made the penjing was Davy, almost certainly under the direction of Ashtara.  But it doesn’t explain why Suibhne wanted to grow Canopus in the first place.  I have to remember something more.  I have to remember what happened to Lorcan.

Interestingly, in that sequence, Lorcan did not seem in distress.  Nevertheless, I still can’t reach him.

Maybe I can find out from one of the other branches, the way I did through Driscoll.  They’d have all seen it from the inside.  They wouldn’t have Lorcan’s direct experience of it, but they’d know the facts.  That might be a safer, more comfortable route.

Axel.  Axel was on the platform with Tara at Nightside.  They were discussing the seedlings – the Bhavashti.  It was after Tara had been with Lens; Lens’ branch was in fruit.  Axel was saying that he wanted to know what Lens saw.  Did he ever find out?

I’ve been in his branch before.  It’s easy to find.  There aren’t many memories stored there yet.

Axel is so green.  He’s a virgin.  I’m lucky that wasn’t my fate.  To be a virgin Cu’enashti emanation is unbearable.  I wonder why humans value it as something precious?

Never mind that; I have to concentrate.  Axel said that he wanted to know what Lens saw, and Tara was about to bring the seeds up to the platform…
